Across the province, we’re seeing an increase in messages about how important it is that new workers join the skilled trades, particularly as experienced tradespeople prepare to retire. In fact, it’s anticipated that roughly one in five job openings in Ontario will be in the skilled trades by 2026. With apprenticeship as one of the five goal paths in Literacy and Basic Skills programs, learners are encouraged to seek LBS support as they prepare for a career in the skilled trades.
To ensure you have the resources you need to support them, we invite you to visit the Apprenticeship page on the Literacy Resources and Discussion Forum to access new Skills for Success resources from organizations like Community Literacy of Ontario (CLO), Laubach Literacy Ontario (LLO), and the Ontario Association of Adult and Continuing Education School Board Administrators (CESBA).
Resource topics include exploring different kinds of trades and sectors, trades math, and preparing for apprenticeship in specific trades including Child Development Practitioner, Heavy Equipment Operator, Automotive Service Technician, Cook and more.
