Core Activity 2024/2025

Core Activities

Each year, in addition to Literacy Service Planning, Literacy Link

South Central participates in or leads several activities

in support of adult literacy programs across the province.

Here are some of the core activities we're working on for 2024/2025.

AI Professional Development

Literacy Link South Central is excited to partner with Metro Toronto Movement for Literacy to develop online professional development/learning days with LBS service providers to develop best practices for supporting literacy learners, aiming to increase service provider capacity related to AI literacy and integrating new skills into teaching practices and delivery.

Supporting Apprenticeship Connections

Literacy Link South Central is happy to continue partnering with Simcoe Muskoka Skillforce along with other LBS partners, to support the integration and alignment of LBS services with Apprentices.

Look for two bilingual electronic newsletters, which will be sent to LBS and apprenticeship stakeholders across the province, featuring up-to-date information on how the skills upgrading LBS programs offer align with the skills needed by apprentices, and how LBS can be integrated into that system to strengthen apprenticeship outcomes.

A bilingual social media campaign with the #HereForApprentices hashtag, promoting the ways LBS programs can further support apprentices, and new PD for LBS practitioners around the new apprenticeship resources developed through Skills For Success, are other great components of this project you can look forward to in 2024!

Approaches to Working with ESL

Literacy Link South Central is thrilled to be working with Laubach Literacy Ontario and other LBS partners to develop and deliver a webinar to partner networks outlining approaches to partnering with ESL.

Through this training, LBS agencies across the partner networks will understand approaches to working with ESL, good practices, and available resources and tools that can be used to support learners accessing LBS programs.

Unlocking Learning Potential with Affordable AI Tools

Literacy Link South Central is happy to be working with Contact North on this project dedicated to researching the integration of affordable or free Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for use in Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS).

The focus extends beyond the technology to make meaningful connections to accessibility, ethics, and overall LBS Program considerations.  Six e-bulletins on this topic will be released throughout 2024-2025. Find each issue here as it is released:

Supporting Workplace and Workforce Literacy

We are excited to lead a Community of Practice focused on workforce/workplace literacy, where we will continue to enhance planning and coordination around how LBS programs and networks are responding to local labour market needs and ensuring participants have the support and resources they require.

Community of Practice meetings will be held on June 11, 2024, October 8, 2024, and January 14, 2025. Contact us if you would like to attend!

Recognition of Prior Learning

Working in partnership with the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie, a survey will be conducted in the Brant, Haldimand, and Norfolk counties to better understand the challenges and obstacles they face with Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The Grand Erie Workforce Training and Skills Survey will be targeted at those who have experienced challenges with prior learning recognition and will be disseminated through a variety of means, including social media, news releases, through our community partners, and (if possible) at community events.

Front-Line Support for Service Providers

Literacy Link South Central is thrilled to be developing a system of collaboration resources for front-line service providers!

These resources will include both online and in-person opportunities to connect, network, and share good practices.

Watch this space for more details as they become available!
