Visiting City Hall

Through our partnership with the Local Employment Planning Council (LEPC), Literacy Link South Central (LLSC) is proud to support the City of London by sharing research and labour market information.

LEPC Senior Data Analyst Emilian Siman and LLSC Geographic Information Systems/Data Analyst Bashir Adeyemo met with the Mayor’s Chief of Staff on April 9 to discuss the findings of their recently released labour force participation follow-up study. The meeting focused specifically on those "not participating in the labour force and not willing or able to work," and why this is such a high proportion of people in this category in the London region.

The Mayor's office stressed the value they see in having a breakdown of those who are “not participating because they are not interested” and the reasons they gave, so as to potentially identify what policy strategies could be developed to address those concerns. The Mayor's office wants to ensure that people who are able and capable of working are provided with the supports they need to rejoin the labour market.

In the weeks ahead, both Emilian and Bashir will be working to gather more data specific to the London Economic Region about the reasons that people aren’t working or looking for work, and will share their findings with the Mayor and his staff.

Today we're continuing our look at the Skills for Success by talking about Writing . According to the Canadian government, writing is how we share information using written words, symbols, and images. For example, we use this skill to fill out forms and applications, and write emails, reports and social media posts. Learn more about writing and the other Skills for Success here , and think about the writing you do on an average day, from grocery lists to reminders to homework.
